Job summary

BKF is seeking a Cultural Resources Discipline Lead to expand its team of archaeologists, paleontologists, and tribal resources specialists. The role can be remote or hybrid, supporting California projects and business development across the region.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in leadership roles, deep knowledge of federal/state historic preservation laws, and strong client management skills. Travel to BKF locations and client sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geospatial sciences, geography, biology, or a related field.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• Preference for meeting Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification Standards for archaeology/anthropology.
• Minimum of 10 years in progressive leadership roles overseeing cultural resource professionals.
• Strong understanding of federal and state historic preservation laws.
• Ability to manage teams and communicate with clients.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee cultural resource assessments and surveys in compliance with NHPA, NEPA and CEQA.
• Develop business development strategy and grow the cultural resources portfolio with internal support.
• Coordinate monitoring with indigenous tribal partners and client teams.
• Prepare technical reports, Phase I/II surveys, and scopes of work.
• Coach, mentor and develop staff capabilities and provide day-to-day oversight.
• Present at conferences, publish white papers, and contribute to BKF’s thought leadership.
