Job summary

Agua Caliente Cultural Museum invites applications for a Museum Educator to lead educational tours, workshops, and lessons for diverse learners. You will support planning and day-of execution for school and public programs, and collaborate with the Education team on weekend and outreach initiatives.

You will engage visitors, develop in-gallery activities, and contribute to gallery guides and educational content while maintaining a high-energy, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• High school degree or GED is required; a Bachelor’s in education or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience in formal or informal educational settings (including volunteer work).
• Interest in teaching children and families to create a positive museum experience.
• Ability to manage large groups of children, parents, and chaperones at the museum or off-site events.
• Experience with classroom/group management is preferred.
• Ability to work with large adult tour groups visiting the museum.
• Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other office programs.
• Ability to function in a high-energy team environment.
• Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings; hours vary by week.
• Knowledge of tribal communities and governments in the region preferred.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and communities.
• Respect for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians’ culture and museum mission.

Responsibilities

• Provides a friendly and welcoming presence for all guests and guides learning about Agua Caliente history and culture.
• Assists with development and implementation of K-12 object-based museum education programs for school field trips.
• Facilitates school programs in and out of the Museum.
• Contributes ideas to the development of school programs, gallery guides, and other educational content.
• Assists with museum programs as needed.
• Facilitates summer camp groups and assists with summer camp workshops.
• Collaborates with Education and Public Engagement staff and other departments to support the museum mission.
• Works with Visitor Services staff to ensure a positive visitor experience.
• Interacts with visitors using objects and gallery carts along the Oasis Trail.
• Provides group tours to youth and adults in the museum and Education Garden.
