Qualifications

• Must be the parent of an Alaska Native/American Indian K-3 child attending ASD schools.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of experience working with Alaska Native families or willingness to participate in training on cultural values and community engagement.
• Background check required.

Responsibilities

• Connect with Alaska Native and American Indian students through shared culture and cultural identity to support their academic learning and social-emotional development.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to supplement in-class instruction by leading project-based learning opportunities.
• Provide small-group instruction focused on building resiliency with challenging academic work.
• Assist with student remedial work, tutor students individually and in small groups, and monitor student progress.
• Support classroom management and assist with preparation of culturally based activities that celebrate Alaska Native and American Indian heritage.
• Provide in-school and after-school learning activities that promote academic excellence and cultural enrichment for students and families.
• Facilitate and participate in events to encourage home-school connection among parents of Alaska Native and American Indian students.
• Increase parent engagement with at-home learning by providing resources and strategies.
