Job summary

Episcopal Community Services in San Francisco seeks a Program Manager to lead CHEFS’ culinary training program, weaving durable skills, life skills, job readiness, and culinary curriculum into a trauma-informed pathway for participants who are homeless or at risk. You will guide students from intake through job placement in a hands-on classroom and field-work environment.

This onsite role collaborates with Cook Trainers, the Associate Director of CHEFS, Employment Specialist, and Data/Impact

Qualifications

  • BA in Education, Social Work, Counseling Psychology, a related field, or the equivalent in relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in training and employment, preferably for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
  • Comfort with the harm-reduction model and experience working with a multi-cultural, low-income population.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and demonstrable computer skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources; ability to establish and model healthy boundaries; commitment to confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Program Design & Instruction: Integrate durable skills, life skills, job readiness, and culinary curriculum into a cohesive, trauma-informed program.
  • Begin each day in the classroom, leading instruction in durable and life skills.
  • Manage 5–6 cohorts per program year, with daily classes running 9:00 AM–4:00 PM.
  • Oversee student intake and case management in partnership with program leadership.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships, employment referrals, and guest instructors.
  • Ensure compliance with funder requirements and record data for reporting.
  • Coordinate and manage student stipends and classroom purchases.
  • Monitor the program budget and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with teams to extend culinary training across the organization.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency response as needed.
