Job summary

Sunshine Retirement Living is seeking a dedicated food service cook to prepare nutritious meals in our community kitchen. You will follow menus, portion-control standards, and safety procedures while coordinating with other kitchen staff to serve residents on time.

Qualified applicants have a high school diploma or equivalent, 18+, and preferably a Culinary Arts degree or relevant experience. This full-time role offers a supportive team and a clean, resident-focused environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Culinary Arts Degree or two years’ experience preferred.
• Ability to read and prepare recipes with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of food service sanitation practices.
• Ability to work with staff and residents in resolving issues.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication.
• Ability to work with little supervision and maintain performance.
• Maintain confidentiality of business information.
• Strong customer service and organizational skills.
• Ability to meet department deadlines.
• Pass all background checks and health screenings where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Review menus and daily food production worksheets for instructions.
• Prepare meals following community menus and recipes.
• Practice community portion-control standards.
• Follow safe food-handling and storage procedures.
• Ensure that food, supplies, and appropriate personnel are available for the meal planned.
• Serve nutritious food, attractively garnished in a punctual manner.
• Follow procedures for covering, labeling, dating, and storing food and complete leftover logs.
• Ensure temperature logs are completed at the required time.
• Follow company sanitation standards by effectively cleaning while working, including areas and equipment.
• Focus on resident satisfaction and resolve food-complaint issues as needed.
• Assist with the set-up of special functions.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• May be assigned to other job functions in the community on a relief basis.
