Job summary

Northlands Job Corps is seeking a dependable Cook Assistant to support daily food preparation and dining services for students and staff. The role helps prepare and serve meals, ensure kitchen and dining areas are clean, and guides culinary arts and work-based learning students in proper food preparation and storage practices.

Essential duties include preparing quantities per menus, observing safety regulations, assisting with serving, and maintaining equipment and facilities.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand written instructions and communicate effectively in English.
• At least three months of related work experience.
• Knowledge of food preparation, storage, safety, and sanitation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare appropriate quantities of food based on menus and serving numbers.
• Follow food-safety regulations and proper handling procedures.
• Assist with serving meals.
• Clean and maintain kitchen, dining areas and equipment.
• Operate dishwashing equipment and clean dishes and utensils.
• Inspect and clean food-service equipment.
• Assist with receiving, moving and storing food and supplies.
• Supervise and assist students with food preparation and sanitation.
• Assist with supervising leisure-time staff and students in work-based learning.
