Job summary

The role involves reading weights, leveraging various cooking methods, and serving the MSU community in a fast-paced residential dining setting. High school graduation and 1 year of full-time food prep experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of full-time food prep experience.
• Knowledge of kitchen safety practices.
• Ability to read weights and measures and weigh ingredients.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic.
• Experience with various cooking methods (sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling, steaming).
• Ability to use knives and standard kitchen equipment.
• Ability to prepare items with proper methods and timing for continuous service.

Responsibilities

• Organize, prepare, and supply food items for salad bars, cold and hot stations, and to-order service.
• Assist cooks by combining ingredients, portioning, and serving from prepared to-order.
• Maintain proper food handling and storage to prevent waste and spoilage.
• Work with a diverse team and directly serve MSU community.
