Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking an Operations & Purchasing Manager to oversee Washburne Culinary Institute's facilities, teaching kitchens, classrooms, storerooms, and restaurants. You will manage purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships while ensuring safety, sanitation, and cost controls aligned with the budget.

The role requires strong leadership, experience in inventory systems, purchasing principles, and the ability to balance daily operations with strategic planning.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree preferred; 5 years experience required.
• Considerable knowledge of inventory control and requisition systems.
• Considerable knowledge of purchasing principles and practices including analysis of profit and loss.
• Considerable knowledge of inventory management and ordering procedures.
• Working knowledge of business math.
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with vendors, students and staff.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements policies for proper, safe use and maintenance of facilities.
• Supervises staff responsible for safety and sanitation and coordinating equipment distribution.
• Monitors safety procedures and maintains inventory of safety supplies.
• Performs daily facility inspections to ensure equipment is secure and functional.
• Maintains storerooms, teaching kitchen, and restaurants in organized, clean order.
• Manages purchasing, requisitions, and vendor communications to meet budget.
• Prepares financial reports and inventory figures for management.
• Balances storeroom sales, inventory, purchases, and accounts payable daily.
• Prepares and inspects purchases to ensure compliance with purchase orders.
