Job summary

Metropolitan Ministries in Saint Petersburg, FL, is seeking a Culinary Arts Instructor to deliver classroom and hands-on kitchen instruction at the CAP program located inside Holy Cross Catholic Church. The role includes food production for the shelter and budgeting responsibilities.

You will mentor students, design curriculum improvements, and establish externship and job placement opportunities with local chefs, while maintaining safety and quality in a busy kitchen environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in food management or culinary arts.
• Certified Food Safety Manager certificate required.
• Minimum 3–5 years in food service or culinary arts industry; 1 year teaching post-secondary preferred.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students through classroom training and hands-on kitchen demonstrations per CAP curriculum.
• Demonstrate proper use of food service equipment and techniques; train students accordingly.
• Coordinate prep with Metro kitchen leadership and address student issues.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in kitchen and classrooms; follow food handling guidelines.
• Order and prepare inventory for culinary lab and dining operations within budget.
• Communicate with Culinary Arts Program Manager about recruitment and attendance; mentor students.
• Design new curriculum and pursue program improvement and innovation in teaching.
• Build externship and job placement opportunities with Tampa restaurant chefs.
