Job summary

The Children's Home is seeking a Food Service Intern in New York to assist with planning and cooking large batch meals for daily operations and special events. The role also provides exposure to the business side of operations, including planning, ordering, inventory, and billing, with a semester-long special project to improve kitchen and events.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Culinary Arts program required.
• Some experience cooking or working in a kitchen preferred.

Responsibilities

• Organize and manage documentation, progress notes, and EHR entries; maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHR systems.
• Work collaboratively with staff within the interdisciplinary team as well as colleagues in other departments.
• Assure proper food storage, sanitation and rotation of refrigerators, freezers, pantries.
• Complete required reports and documentation in a timely manner, meeting all standards of content and professional presentation.
• Prepare menus for food program requirements and daily food production schedules.
• Perform a variety of routine clerical tasks such as maintaining files and balancing inventories.
• Assist in the purchasing and ordering of all foods and maintain inventories.
• Manage job functions within established financial limits.
• Be responsible that all sharp utensils are safe and securely locked.
• Special event meals will be monitored by assigned cooks. This may include breakfasts, lunches, dinners and/or brunches for programs.
