Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties in Gig Harbor, WA is seeking a part-time Culinary Arts Instructor to lead engaging culinary classes while upholding YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

You will plan lessons, teach basic techniques, and assess progress in a supportive environment. Background checks and required trainings are mandatory; position offers up to 25 hours weekly at $17.13–$19.77 per hour.

Qualifications

• Background and reference checks required per WA state guidelines.
• Commitment to valuing diversity and fostering an inclusive environment.
• Online Child Abuse Prevention training on day one and other required trainings.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• 5+ years formal culinary arts training or equivalent experience.
• 1–2 years teaching or assistant teaching in culinary arts preferred.
• Ability to teach preschool and beginner-level culinary classes.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
• Ability to obtain WA State Department of Health Food Handler Card.

Responsibilities

• Teach and demonstrate sound culinary techniques to program participants.
• Create structured lesson plans within budget and reflect YMCA curricula.
• Attend YMCA events and contribute to center activities.
• Communicate student progress to youth/arts director and members.
• Participate in staff training and meetings.
• Support center events by sharing the Y story and making asks.
• Maintain a clean, organized classroom and store supplies after each class.
