Job summary

Everett Public Schools is seeking two qualified Culinary Arts Instructors to provide evening instruction for an adult-training cohort in a commercial kitchen.

Instructors will deliver hands-on, industry-aligned culinary instruction and prepare participants for employment and credentials, from February 2027 to May 2027, with compensation at $40 per hour up to 262 hours.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts DESE Chapter 74 Culinary Arts license required.
• Experience teaching in a commercial kitchen.
• Familiarity with DESE Culinary Arts frameworks.
• Knowledge of ServSafe certifications and food safety.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver hands-on culinary instruction aligned with DESE Culinary Arts frameworks.

• Help participants earn ServSafe certifications and other credentials.
• Develop lesson plans, materials, assessments, and records.
• Differentiate instruction for adults with varying backgrounds.
• Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Maintain a safe, sanitary kitchen and learning space.
• Collaborate with co-instructor, administrators, workforce partners, and staff.
• Assist with inventory, supplies, and equipment maintenance.

Instructors will deliver hands-on, industry-aligned culinary instruction in a commercial kitchen and prepare participants for employment and applicable industry-recognized credentials.

Required Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts DESE Chapter 74 Culinary Arts vocational technical educator license.
• Demonstrated experience working and teaching in a commercial kitchen environment.
• Familiarity with the Massachusetts DESE Chapter 74 Culinary Arts frameworks.
• Knowledge of ServSafe certifications, food safety requirements, and commercial sanitation practices.
• Ability to provide effective hands-on instruction to adult learners.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and recordkeeping skills.
• Availability to work the program schedule associated with the assigned cohorts.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, hands-on culinary instruction aligned with the Massachusetts DESE Chapter 74 Culinary Arts frameworks.
• Provide instruction in commercial kitchen operations, food preparation, sanitation, safety, equipment use, and employability skills.
• Prepare participants to earn applicable ServSafe certifications and other identified industry-recognized credentials.
• Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, assessments, and participant records.
• Differentiate instruction to support adult learners with varying educational, professional, and linguistic backgrounds.
• Monitor participant progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and sanitary commercial kitchen and instructional environment.
• Collaborate with the second Culinary Arts Instructor, program administrators, workforce partners, and support staff to ensure consistent program implementation.
• Assist with inventory management, instructional supply requests, and equipment maintenance.
• Participate in required program planning, meetings, data collection, and grant-reporting activities.
• Complete other program-related responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Career and Technical Education.

Compensation

Each instructor will be compensated at a rate of $40.00 per hour for up to 262 hours, with maximum total compensation of $10,480 per instructor over the cohort period. This is a grant-funded position, per the Commonwealth Corporation Career Technical Initiative, and hours are contingent upon program enrollment, scheduling, continued grant funding, and successful completion of assigned responsibilities.
