Job summary

CT Mechanical, a division of Comfort Temp Company, seeks a Project Engineer to support the Project Management team on mechanical projects from turnover through closeout in Jacksonville and Gainesville. This early-career role offers hands-on experience in mechanical contracting, procurement, and documentation, with a clear path toward project management and professional growth.

You'll collaborate with estimators, vendors, and field teams, gaining exposure to schedules, budgets, and quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • 0–3 years of experience in project engineering, coordination, or related role in construction/mechanical contracting.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and plumbing drawings and specs; HVAC/plumbing knowledge is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD/Revit, or PM software is a plus.
  • Core competencies include strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, organization, and clear written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Set up projects and turnover, coordinating with estimators and handoffs in Jacksonville and Gainesville.
  • Review plans and specifications to identify scope, conflicts and coordination issues.
  • Manage submittals: create register, request, review, and distribute.
  • Prepare and track RFIs and responses to affected parties.
  • Coordinate procurement: lead times, release dates, and vendor coordination.
  • Issue POs and subcontracts; log changes in QuickBooks Workforce.
  • Assist PMs with change orders, pricing, and approvals.
  • Handle owner-directed purchases (ODP) and invoicing.
  • Maintain schedules and coordinate with trades and the general contractor.
  • Provide field support and visit job sites as needed.
  • Maintain document control: revisions, logs, submittals, POs/subcontracts.
  • Collect COIs for subcontractors in Jacksonville and Gainesville.
  • Compile O&M manuals and support commissioning and training.

Job Summary:
The Project Engineer works with the Project Management team to provide technical, procurement, and documentation support for mechanical projects from turnover through closeout. This role is ideal for early-career engineers and construction professionals who want hands‑on experience in mechanical contracting and a clear path toward project management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Setup & Turnover: Collect project information from Estimators, review scope and estimate assumptions, and coordinate turnover meetings for mechanical projects in Jacksonville and Gainesville to ensure a smooth handoff.
  • Plans & Specifications Review: Review contract documents to identify scope, potential conflicts, and coordination issues, and flag concerns to Project Managers early.
  • Submittals Management: Build the submittal register from plans and specifications, request submittals from vendors and subcontractors, review them for technical compliance with project requirements, submit for approval, and distribute approved submittals.
  • RFIs: Identify design discrepancies or missing information, draft and track Requests for Information, and communicate responses to the field and affected subcontractors.
  • Material & Equipment Procurement: Obtain and log lead times for materials and equipment, track release and delivery dates, and coordinate with vendors to support the project schedule.
  • Purchase Orders & Subcontracts: Issue purchase orders and subcontracts, logging all details and change orders in QuickBooks Workforce.
  • Change Management: Assist Project Managers in reviewing scope changes, gathering pricing from vendors and subcontractors, preparing change order proposals, and tracking approvals.
  • Owner-Directed Purchases (ODP): Submit ODP requests, track approvals, and manage invoice submissions for owner payment.
  • Scheduling & Coordination: Keep subcontractors and field teams supplied with current schedules, and support coordination with other trades and the general contractor.
  • Field Support: Visit job sites as needed to verify progress, support field teams with technical questions, and document conditions.
  • Document Control: Maintain current plan revisions for internal records and affected subcontractors, and keep the project tracking log up to date on submittals, released materials, POs/subcontracts, signed documents, and approved change orders.
  • Insurance Compliance: Collect job‑specific certificates of insurance for mechanical subcontractors in Jacksonville and Gainesville.
  • Closeout & O&M Manuals: Compile O&M manuals including vendor documents, start‑up reports, field as‑builts, test and balance reports, and warranties; support commissioning activities and schedule owner training as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 0 to 3 years of experience in project engineering, project coordination, or a related role within construction or mechanical contracting. Internship experience is a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret mechanical and plumbing drawings and specifications; understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems is a plus.
  • Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD/Revit, or project management software is a plus.
  • Core Competencies: Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, excellent organization and multitasking, clear written and verbal communication, and a proactive, detail‑oriented approach.
