Job summary

UW Health in Madison, WI is hiring a Registered Nurse – Care Team Leader in the Neurosciences unit. You will lead a fast-paced 25-bed neuro specialty unit, mentor staff, and participate in daily interprofessional rounds, ensuring high-quality care for postoperative spine, brain tumor, stroke, epilepsy and other neuro diagnoses.

Qualifications

  • BSN preferred.
  • Minimum inpatient unit experience of 2 years is required.
  • Leadership experience or development is considered in lieu of inpatient time.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate and lead nursing staff while collaborating with the interprofessional team.
  • Mentor colleagues to grow professionally and advance knowledge and skills.
  • Facilitate and participate in daily interprofessional rounds.
  • Care for neuro medical/surgical adult patients including post-surgical spine and stroke care.
  • Collaborate with stroke and epilepsy teams to provide complex care.

Work Schedule

90% FTE, Day/Evening 7:00am-7:30pm with a two in six weekend rotation. Holiday rotation required. You will work at the University Hospital in Madison, WI.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse – Care Team Leader: Neurosciences

  • Motivate and lead nursing staff while working in collaboration with the interprofessional team.
  • Mentor others to grow professionally and advance their knowledge and skills.
  • Facilitate and participate in daily interprofessional rounds.
  • Care for a variety of medical and surgical adult neuro patients to include post-surgical spine surgeries, brain tumors, craniotomy and ophthalmology cases along with neurological patients with multiple sclerosis, ALS, Guillain-Barre syndrome, and trauma or ortho patients with multiple injuries/diagnosis or spinal fractures requiring orthotics.
  • Become part of our interdisciplinary team of stroke professionals. UW Health is proud to be a Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Program in WI with the ability to treat the most complex stroke cases in the state.
  • Help provide the highest level of diagnosis and treatment options for those with epilepsy. This unit includes a Level IV Comprehensive Epilepsy Center as designated by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) Preferred

Work Experience
  • 2 years experience in an inpatient unit Required
  • 2 years of combined work experience and leadership experience may be considered in lieu of two (2) years’ experience in an inpatient unit Required
  • 3 years experience in an acute care inpatient unit Preferred
  • Relevant RN experience with department-specific patient population Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Required
  • Current CPR/BLS certification Required
  • National certification in relevant specialty Preferred
