Location: Omak, WA
The Dental Assistant for the Colville Tribal Healthcare Authority provides responsive, high quality dental care services that meet the needs of all users at their assigned location. The Dental Assistant will perform their job duties in a professional manner while assuring that all the needs of the patients are met with a pleasant demeanor. The Dental Assistant works closely with dentists and other dental staff to provide efficient and compassionate patient care and to maintain a clean, safe, and organized dental environment.
Qualifications: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare treatment rooms and dental instruments for patient procedures
- Assist dentists and other dental providers during examinations, treatments, and dental procedures
- Prepare patients for dental treatment and provide appropriate assistance and reassurance throughout the visit
- Take and record patient medical and dental histories, vital signs, and other information as directed
- Obtain and document dental radiographs as permitted by applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies
- Maintain and prepare dental instruments and equipment for use
- Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments, equipment, and treatment areas in accordance with infection control standards
- Maintain appropriate levels of dental supplies and notify appropriate personnel when supplies need to be ordered or restocked
- Assist with dental impressions, materials, instruments, and other procedures as directed by the dental provider and within the scope of training and applicable regulations
- Provide patient education and instructions regarding oral hygiene, treatment procedures, and post-treatment care as directed by the dental provider
- Assist with patient questions and/or complaints for resolution of concerns or refer concerns to the appropriate staff member
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records and documentation in the electronic health record
- Ensure dental equipment and treatment areas are maintained in a clean, safe, orderly, and sanitary condition
- Follow established infection prevention, bloodborne pathogen, safety, and hazardous materials procedures
- Complies and ensures compliance with applicable legislation, funding and organizational requirements, policies and procedures
- Ensure confidential handling of sensitive team member information in line with data protection policies and laws
- Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
- Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program or equivalent education and training preferred
- Current Dental Assistant certification/registration or other credentials as required by applicable regulations and organizational requirements
- HIPAA and Privacy training within 90 days of employment
- Blood borne pathogen training annually
- CPR/First Aid within initial 90 (ninety) days of hire
- Ability to understand, speak, communicate and read the English language
- Ability to utilize RPMS and EHR proficiently
- Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, equipment, procedures, and infection control practices
- Requires ability to utilize a multi-line telephone with good telephone etiquette
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Well-developed human relation skills to convey technical concepts to others and to give instructions
- Ability to communicate technical information and to interact with a wide variety of groups and individuals inside and outside the organization
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work processes in a high-volume environment in order to meet schedules and timelines
- Ability to accurately document patient information and maintain complete and timely records
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a dental healthcare team
- Ability to communicate professionally in written, verbal, and non-verbal format while portraying a friendly tone, word choice, and body language
- Ability to take initiative and be proactive in the duties of the position in order to meet mandated deadlines and to comply with goals and objectives

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
