Job summary

Western Michigan University’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences invites applications for a Faculty Specialist I in Workforce Education. The successful candidate will teach across undergraduate and graduate programs and coordinate the program’s intern teacher internship, shaping future CTE teachers.

This tenure-track lecturer role offers opportunities to work with school partners, supervise internships, advise students, and contribute to department and university service.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Career and Technical Education, Workforce Education, or related field.
• Teaching experience in a relevant CTE discipline such as Business Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, or Industrial Technology Education.
• Experience with student teacher supervision, mentoring, or internship coordination.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills for working with school partners and cooperating teachers.

Responsibilities

• Teach core undergraduate and graduate courses in Workforce Education, including career and employability skills, student assessment, curriculum development, and teaching methods.
• Coordinate and run the program’s intern teacher internship, including placing candidates in school settings, building relationships with cooperating teachers and school partners, and conducting site visits.
• Evaluate intern performance and ensure candidates meet Michigan Department of Education certification requirements.
• Advise and mentor students across five undergraduate majors and the Workforce Education graduate program.
• Support students preparing for careers as CTE teachers, workplace trainers, and workforce development specialists.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service.
