Job summary

Kelso School District seeks a temporary CTE Technical Aide-Shop at Coweeman Middle School for the 2026/2027 school year. Work 7.5 hours/day, 191 days/year, 7:30am–3:30pm, supporting woodworking and construction tech labs under the instructor’s guidance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist instructor in supervising students and maintaining order in the woodshop and construction technology classroom, ensuring students follow safety protocols.
  • Assist instructor with providing student assistance with woodworking labs and monitoring progress.
  • Organize supply lists and shop for items as needed.
  • Properly maintain and inventory all tools, equipment, and wood/construction materials for the woodshop and construction technology classroom.
  • Assist with the unloading of delivered wood/construction supplies.
  • Organize and properly store woodworking supplies and equipment.
  • Sweep woodshop floors and clean work areas prior to labs.
  • Create and maintain professionalism with vendors.
  • Assist instructor in maintaining all records, keeping inventory of product for labs, etc.
  • Participate in field trips, both in and out of district.
  • Maintain, repair/improve the physical woodshop and construction facility.
  • Support CTE student organization (CTSO) in competitive events.
  • Support students with assignments in Woodworking Technology and Construction Technology.
  • Demonstrate skill in woodshop safety, including the use of various hand and power tools (e.g., table saws, miter saws, drills, sanders), as well as tool care, equipment care, and machine and shop safety.
  • Assist instructor in all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
  • Perform all other responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Woodworking or construction experience required (preferably work-related experience).
  • Willingness to learn and apply new skills to accommodate a changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • Demonstrated ability to share knowledge with real-life applications.
  • Willingness to actively develop and maintain business partnerships to support classroom activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully relate to students of all ages.
  • Must possess ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically.
  • Demonstrated ability to use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation in written and oral communication and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess ability to work independently and maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • Must possess ability to accept direction and constructive criticism.
  • Must possess valid first aid and CPR cards (or obtain upon employment) and be willing to keep cards current.
  • Willingness to successfully upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Neat, clean personal appearance and traits that make him/her a good role model for students; work apparel should be appropriate for a safe and professional work environment.
EDUCATION

High school diploma and/or equivalent; prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. In general the job requires 70% standing, 20% walking, and 10% sitting. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.
