CTE Fire Skills Instructor — Hourly, Part-Time

POSITION GOAL:
Assist the primary instructor in providing hands-on fire science instruction, skills practice, and assessment for students enrolled in the Fire Services program. Support students in developing safe work habits, technical skills, teamwork, and career readiness for opportunities in the fire service and emergency response.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant fire service certification, such as Firefighter I.
- Minimum of two years of firefighting or related fire service experience.
- Current CPR Healthcare Provider instructor preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Fire Instructor I certification and previous teaching or training experience preferred.
- Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Education, or a related field preferred.
SKILLS:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage, motivate, and mentor high school students.
- Competency in foundational firefighting skills, fire prevention, equipment use, and emergency response procedures.
- Knowledge of current fire service practices and safety protocols.
- Organized, detail oriented, and self-motivated.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively under the direction of the primary instructor.
- Ability to demonstrate skills clearly and provide constructive feedback.
DUTIES:
- Assist the primary instructor in teaching the skills and knowledge needed to successfully complete the Fire Services program and prepare for applicable skills assessments and certifications.
- Support lesson preparation and skills activities aligned with program curriculum and industry standards.
- Demonstrate firefighting techniques, proper equipment use, personal protective equipment procedures, and safe work practices.
- Organize, supervise, and assist students during hands‑on skills labs, simulations, and training drills.
- Observe student performance, provide feedback, and assist with documenting skill development and assessment results.
- Reinforce classroom instruction through guided practice and participatory learning experiences.
- Maintain a safe, organized training environment and reinforce established safety procedures.
- Assist with inspecting, organizing, and maintaining training equipment and supplies; promptly report safety concerns or equipment needs.
- Collaborate with the primary instructor, district staff, and local fire service partners to support student learning and career exploration.
- Communicate student progress, concerns, and program needs clearly and in a timely manner.
- Stay current with relevant fire service practices and participate in required district and program training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Hourly, part-time position; hours and schedule determined by program needs.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for scheduled training activities.
- Must pass district-required background and reference checks.
- Employment with the District is at will. The employee or the District may terminate the employment relationship with or without cause, and with or without notice, at any time.
