Carrollton - Farmers Branch ISD seeks a Construction and HVAC Teacher for Smith High School to deliver TEA-aligned instruction in Construction and/or HVAC, develop engaging lessons, and guide students toward relevant career paths.

The role requires a Texas teaching credential in Trade & Industrial Education (preferred) and a minimum of three years in Construction or HVAC. The position is on-site with opportunities to lead CTSO activities and collaborate with staff.

Qualifications

Primary Purpose:

To help students learn Construction and/or HVAC and related skills at appropriate levels that will contribute to their development as mature, capable and responsible individuals.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/Licensure:

  • Valid Texas teacher certification in Trade and Industrial Education (preferred)

Preferred Experience:

  • At least three (3) years' experience in a Construction or HVAC job or related field.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of TEA curriculum in Construction and/or HVAC.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning style and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Coordinate and serve as instructor for pre-professional construction and/or HVAC careers.
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district and state requirements.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development:

  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal teaching.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Participate in related Career Tech Student Organization's (CTSO's) for their program including preparing and traveling with students to competitions if applicable.

Classroom Management and Organization:

  • Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Participate in staff development activities and attend professional development as needed or required.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community members.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment;

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions. District-wide and statewide travel.

Other: Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures; Other duties as assigned
