Job summary

School City of Hammond seeks an Alternative Education Program Paraprofessional to help create a positive learning environment and support students in CTE exploration through Area Career Center courses. The role works closely with staff to implement district policies and ensure safety and orderly operation of the alternative room.

Responsibilities include monitoring behavior, transporting students, maintaining records, and assisting with instructional materials.

Qualifications

• Must possess 60+ college credits or have passed the ParaPro Assessment.
• Experience withMicrosoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to learn educational resources and adapt to changes.

Responsibilities

• Observe, record, and report student behavior.
• Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
• Support high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
• Escort/transport students and supervise during breaks.
• Assist in record keeping and take attendance.
• Prepare instructional and performance materials for use.
• Use behavior management techniques to maintain a positive climate.
• Immediately report accidents or abusive behavior to staff.
• Distribute assignments and administer tests as directed.
• Document student behavior and activity throughout the stay in the program.
