Job summary

Northwestern University is seeking an experienced Instructor for the CTD Academic Summer Camp in Evanston, IL. The role covers course design, standards-based instruction, and student progress evaluation for grades 6–12.

Responsibilities include creating syllabi, supervising teaching assistants, and coordinating with families and the Academic Director. Limited housing is available for eligible staff; bachelor’s with teaching experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and teaching experience required; master's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 5 years teaching experience required; 7–10 years preferred.
  • Ability to adapt content for acceleration; compacted curriculum experience a plus.

  • Learn, uphold, and implement CTD policies and procedures.
  • Design instructional activities and prepare a syllabus using CTD templates.
  • Create and maintain a course website within CTD's LMS and select instructional materials.
  • Review student medical notes and uphold confidentiality; ensure safety plans where needed.
  • Evaluate student progress and communicate with families as required.
  • Supervise Teaching Assistants and use grading systems per CTD guidelines.

  • 3‑Week Instructor: starting at $3,700 per session for new and returning staff
  • Session 1: June 29 – July 17, 2026
  • Session 2: July 19 – August 7, 2026
  • 1‑Week Instructor: starting at $1,300 per session for new and returning staff
  • Session 1A: July 29 – August 3, 2026
  • Session 1B: July 5 – July 10, 2026
  • Session 1C: July 12 – July 17, 2026
  • Session 2A: July 19 – July 24, 2026
  • Session 2B: July 26 – July 31, 2026
  • Session 2C: August 2 – August 7, 2026
  • Limited housing is available to instructors who live outside the Chicagoland area.
Qualifications

General Responsibilities
  • Learn, uphold, and implement CTD policies and procedures, including the CTD Honor Code.
  • Maintain CTD's standard of active supervision at all times.
  • Design all instructional activities and components of the course and prepare a syllabus using a CTD template.
  • Create and maintain a course website for students within CTD's learning management system.
  • Choose and request appropriate instructional materials for the course.
  • Review student medical notes (i.e., allergies/other medical needs) and uphold confidentiality policies.
  • Science instructors: participate in laboratory safety training if required; prepare and implement safety plans according to laboratory guidelines and regulations.
  • Execute course curriculum with an eye toward individual student progress and achievement.
  • Supervise Teaching Assistant's performance and engagement in the classroom.
  • Utilize student grading systems according to guidelines and provide students with feedback on their work.
  • In collaboration with the Academic Director, contact families regarding student progress as needed.
  • Evaluate and assess students according to CTD guidelines and course objectives.
  • Assume program‑related responsibilities as reasonably requested by CTD directors and administrators.
