Job summary

Northwell Health in New York is seeking a CT Technologist to produce diagnostic CT images and ensure patient safety. You will coordinate throughput, identify patients, perform IV cannulation, adjust imaging protocols and supervise contrast administration under physician oversight.

Required are graduation from an approved radiologic program, NYS radiologic license with injection, ARRT CT certification (or within 1 year), and BLS.

Qualifications

Graduate of a School of Radiologic Technology.
ARRT CT Certification or obtain within 1 year of hire.
NY State Radiologic License with Injection.
BLS certification is required.
Preferred Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or related field.

Responsibilities

Coordinates timely throughput for CT patients, prioritizing exams by priority level and escalating hurdles to Lead CT Technologist or Manager.
Identifies patient using two identifiers, checks imaging orders, schedules/prioritizes exams, and assesses pregnancy risk prior to exams.
Explains procedures to patients with professionalism and compassion.
Performs IV cannulation and iStat testing per NYS DOH scope; uses aseptic technique.
Positions patient for optimal CT images; selects imaging protocols and adjusts exposure as needed.
Operates power injectors for contrast administration under physician supervision and standards.
Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety.
Proficient in post-processing workstations; verifies exams and archives to PACS; ensures accuracy in RIS.
Follows infection control and safety guidelines; stocks rooms for shifts.
Coordinates care for CT patients including transport and communication with nursing units, maintaining confidentiality and patient comfort.

Properly identifies patient using two patient identifiers, checks the imaging order for complete information, proper exam and/or procedure and schedules/prioritizes as needed, and assess risk of pregnancy prior to commencing with exam or procedure.
Explains the procedure to the patient with professionalism and compassion.
Performs IV cannulation, as prescribed by Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), using aseptic technique as per NYS DOH Scope of Practice. Performs iStat testing in accordance with the established policies.
Positions patient ensuring patient comfort and modesty. Selects proper imaging protocol reflective of imaging order, maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and adjusts exposure techniques to obtain optimal CT images.
Operates power injectors in preparation for and administration of contrast media under the direct supervision of the supervising physician in accordance with department policy and regulatory standards.
Demonstrate knowledge of and practices radiation safety.
Is proficient in the operation of post processing workstations. Performs critique of exam for completeness and correct labeling. Is responsible for accurate and timely exam verification within the hospital’s RIS system and archival of completed studies to the PACS system.
Follows infection control and safety guidelines, cleans and disinfects scanner and exam rooms. Properly stocks assigned room prior to the start and end of shift.
Protocols exams for the next day to ensure that the examinations were scheduled properly, flag any contraindications and requests revised orders as necessary.
Coordinates all aspects of care for the CT patient to include, but not limited to: coordination, and participation as necessary, of patient transportation to the appropriate areas, communicates pertinent patient information with nursing units, exercises ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties, maintains strict patient confidentiality, monitors patient’s comfort while in the CT department.

Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to produce diagnostic CT images of designated anatomic areas as prescribed by established scan protocols, while providing the appropriate care to the age of the patient served by the department of radiology.
