This job is responsible for assessing patients and safely performing routine CT procedures following prescribed radiation safety protocols. The role also involves serving as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Required - Completion of an approved Radiologic Technology program

Work Experience

Preferred - CT experience

Certifications

Required - Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or computed tomography ARRT (CT) certified OR ARRT registry eligible, registered within 90 days of employment, with a temporary state license required. CT registry eligible within one year. Advanced certification in CT required within one year of becoming CT registry eligible. Current unrestricted license in the state of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Preferred – Advanced certification in CT accepted by ARRT.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proficiency with computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows applications and role-specific software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of CT procedures and technical language.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Self-directed work ability.
  • Flexibility in work duties and hours.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and blood flow hemodynamics.
  • Skills to identify stenosis or occlusion based on published criteria.
  • Assist physicians with ultrasonic-guided interventional procedures.
Job Duties
  • Verify physician orders and procedures for accuracy.
  • Use radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding.
  • Operate equipment independently to complete imaging procedures, including IV placement.
  • Review images for quality before transmission.
  • Perform quality control procedures and address issues as needed.
  • Assist with departmental operations like inventory and equipment maintenance.
  • Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and communication styles.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work - Exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly. Includes walking, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity. Must be able to travel between facilities. Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and possibly hazardous materials or communicable diseases is possible.
