CT Technologist
Summerville, SC
13 week assignment. WOW (Fri‑Sun) 7a‑7:30p. 2‑3 call shifts every 6 weeks. Floats to other facilities as needed.

Job Summary

Following established protocol and under the medical supervision of certified radiologists, CT technologists will produce computerized tomography scanner radiographs of designated anatomical areas as ordered by the physician to interpret and diagnose patient disease or injury. Technologists will assist the radiologists on procedures as needed and be responsible for supervision of student radiologic technologists assigned to them, encouraging and maintaining good customer relations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for the care and safety of patients during imaging procedures utilizing age‑appropriate care. Following established protocols and under the direction of radiologists, perform procedures for the direct results of interpretations; obtain correct written order for procedure, efficient use of time, and assist in the clinical education of student technologists. (40%)
  2. Efficient utilization of imaging equipment with attention to minimizing repeat examinations; use supplies with emphasis on cost containment. (20%)
  3. Instruct and prepare patients regarding imaging procedures and assist in obtaining informed consent as needed. Ensure patient understanding of procedure, communicate with family members regarding discharge instructions, and respond actively to internal and external customers. (10%)
  4. Ensure correct orders, diagnosis and clinical history are entered into computer system; communicate with radiologist regarding procedure in both verbal and written situations, presenting a positive and professional demeanor. (10%)
  5. Adhere to hospital, departmental and safety policies and procedures; practice good radiation protection and follow established guidelines for DHEC, TJC and other governing organizations; practice radiation safety in accordance with ALARA principles; complete annual mandatory in‑services and maintain current licensure requirements; support department efforts to meet established projects and goals. (10%)
  6. Assist other members of the Imaging Team and/or other disciplines including clerical staff to maintain records, reports and files; function as a team player, demonstrate flexibility and accountability, take initiative toward improving departmental operations, and consistently complete EDE. (10%)

Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.

Work Demands / Environment

Frequent standing, walking and lifting/moving patients up to 50 lbs; frequent use of finger/hand dexterity; constant reaching with hands/arms; frequent talking or hearing. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Possible exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue and infectious materials; risk of radiation; intermittent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; exposure to blood‑borne pathogens. Quiet to moderate noise level. Work under stressful conditions, deadlines or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays as needed.

Knowledge / Skills

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrate ability to perform and teach CT exams to produce satisfactory diagnostic images; knowledge of OSHA, DHEC, FDA and TJC standards and regulations; and ability to operate standard office equipment.

Education & Prior Experience
  • Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school of Allied Health Professionals preferred; successful completion of an accredited Computed Tomography Program preferred.
  • Experience: One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.
  • Licensure / Certification: Registered in Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or current RSFH teammate with a high school diploma or GED and a permanent certification in radiography from SCRQSA. ARRT registered in CT preferred. Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. Certified.
