Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
• CT Certification.
• NJ License required.
• Previous CT experience required.
• Maintains required BLS Heart Saver/Health Care Provider through American Heart Association

Responsibilities

• Analyzes patient condition, age and suspected pathology for proper technique.
• Assists Radiologist in performing radiographic procedures.
• Properly marks images with time and body position.
• Ensures patient comfort and safety during examination.
• Prepares room and ensures supplies are stocked.
• Explains procedures and assists patient transfer.
• Observes equipment for proper Function and reports malfunctions.
• Uses Radiology Information System to manage cases.
• Delivers age-appropriate care according to patient needs.

Cat Scan Technician – RWJBarnabas Health

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Cat Scan Technician plays a critical role in patient care and diagnostics. Operating under the supervision of a board-certified radiologist, they work with a high level of independence. They are responsible for preparing patients, administering contrast dye, ensuring radiation safety, and delivering high-quality diagnostic images.

A typical day for a Cat Scan Technician may include:

• Analyzes patient physical condition, age and suspected pathology for proper technique
• Assists Radiologist in performing certain radiographic procedures
• Correctly marks images with time and body position
• Ensures patient comfort, physical and mental well being during the examination
• Ensures that room is properly stocked with all needed supplies prior to the beginning of the procedure
• Explains procedures, keeps patient informed of progress and assists patients in transferring on to/off examination table for procedures
• Observes equipment for proper functioning and reports malfunctions to supervisor
• Properly prepares room before patient enters and cleans it after patient exits
• Properly uses the Radiology Information System to arrive, change if necessary and complete cases
• Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patients age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care
• This is a Monday through Friday schedule with Saturday rotation
