Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Full Time CT Technologist at the Harrisburg site to support the CT Department. The role involves conducting CT procedures, administering contrast, and ensuring accurate coding and documentation in RIS and ISITE.

A two-year CT experience requirement and ARRT CT certification are specified, with on-call duties included. The program offers a $20,000 sign-on bonus for a 2-year commitment and a Monthly Loan Repayment Program up to $9,000 over three years for eligible December 2023

Qualifications

• ARRT CT Technologist certification or CNMT program completion.

• CPR/BLS per policy.
• Act 31/33/34/73 clearances renewal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform CT procedures using established scan protocols, with contrast as ordered.
• Code and track exams in RIS, network to ISITE for archiving, ensure proper charges.
• Administer PO, rectal and IV contrast per orders; assess patient risk.
• Communicate instructions clearly and reassure patients during procedures.
• Apply imaging protocols with independent judgment to optimize data acquisition.
• Identify patients using two identifiers; document patient history and orders.
• Demonstrate venipuncture technique and proper use of the power injector.

Schedule

7:00 am – 7:00 pm (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Rotating on‑call and holidays

Responsibilities

• Performs computed tomography procedures utilizing established scan protocols, including contrast administration without requiring constant supervision.
• Utilizes complex imaging equipment for the acquisition, analysis, reconstruction and documentation of image data and completes procedures according to protocol.
• Ensures all exams within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the RIS system, all exams are properly networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.
• Administers PO, rectal and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assesses patients for potential risk factors prior to contrast media administration.
• Communicates instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explains procedures to allay the patients’ fears and solicit cooperation.
• Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment to adjust protocols, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation appropriately for diagnostic CT purposes.
• Interacts with both patients and co‑workers, displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect; works as a team member within the department and with other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.
• Identifies patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes the universal protocol when performing procedures; reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in data acquisition; documents patient history in electronic records as required.
• Demonstrates proper technique in venipuncture; demonstrates proper use of power injector according to set protocols set by department and/or manufacturer.

Qualifications

Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology or completion of an accredited CNMT program. Two years CT experience required. Must have obtained a performance review rating of strong/solid/good on the most recent performance review to be eligible for promotion.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

• ARRT certified as a CT Technologist.
• CPR or BLS Required.
• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
• Act 33 with renewal.
• Act 34 with renewal.
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
