Job summary

UPMC Horizon – Shenango Valley in Farrell, PA, seeks a full-time CT Technologist to join the Imaging Team.

Shifts vary with weekends/holidays; occasional travel to UPMC Greenville may be required. Sign-on bonus of $20,000 for a 2-year commitment and loan repayment programs available for eligible regular full-time roles.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology or CNMT program.
  • ARRT registry within 6 months of hire date; CNMT registry within 6 months if applicable.
  • CT registry must be obtained within 18 months of hire or from primary registry date.

Responsibilities

  • Performs computed tomography procedures using established scan protocols and contrast administration.
  • Operates imaging equipment for acquisition, analysis, reconstruction, and documentation of image data.
  • Code and track exams in RIS; ensure ISITE archiving and interpretation; accurate charges.
  • Administer contrast per physician orders; assess patient risk factors before contrast.
  • Communicate procedures clearly to patients to reduce anxiety and gain cooperation.
  • Adjust protocols as needed with independent judgement for diagnostic CT purposes.
  • Collaborate with staff across departments to expedite patient care.
  • Identify patients with two identifiers and follow universal protocol.
  • Review patient history and orders; document history in electronic record.

Sign-On Bonus Details: $20,000 for a 2-year work commitment.

UPMC's brand new Monthly Loan Repayment program, exclusively for December 2023 and later graduates, offering $9000 in loan repayment paid over three years for eligible regular Full-Time roles. (Eligible Flex Full-Time roles to receive prorated amount of $6300.)

Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education.

Responsibilities
  • Performs computed tomography procedures utilizing established scan protocols, including contrast administration without requiring constant supervision.
  • Utilizes complex imaging equipment for the acquisition, analysis, reconstruction and documentation of image data and completes procedures according to protocol.
  • Ensures all exams within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through RIS system, all exams are properly networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.
  • Administers PO, rectal and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assess patients for potential risk factors prior to the administration of the contrast media required for the imaging procedure.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patient's fears and solicit their cooperation.
  • Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement to adjust protocols, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation appropriately for diagnostic CT purposes.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect. Able to work as team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.
  • Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures. Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data. Documents patient history in electronic record as required.
  • Demonstrates proper technique in venipuncture; demonstrates proper use of power injector according to set protocols set by department and/or manufacturer.

Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology or completion of accredited CNMT program.

ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT registry within 6 months of hire date.

CT registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained.

CNMT graduates must obtain CNMT registry within 6 months of hire date.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

ARRT certified as a Radiologic Technologist is required or certified by a CNMT program. ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT registry within 6 months of hire date.

CT registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained.

CNMT graduates must obtain CNMT registry within 6 months of hire date.

All CT Technologist working in NY facilities performing contrast media injection are required to have received certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and be Licensed through the New York State Department of Health.

CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
