Job summary

Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL seeks a CT Technologist to perform diagnostic CT imaging with focus on patient safety, image quality, and protocol adherence. The role requires teamwork with radiologists and technologists, and you’ll operate advanced imaging equipment on three twelve-hour night shifts.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program.
• ARRT Computed Tomography (CT) certification.
• Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Accreditation.
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Responsibilities

• Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
• Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.
• Applies professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
• Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
• Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).
• Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
• Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.
• Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
• Ensures imaging safety standards (radiation/mri safety as applicable) to protect patients and staff.
• Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery.
• Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth.
• Verifies orders and confirms protocol.
• Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table.
• Positions patients and selects parameters accurately using ALARA principles.
• Ensures Right Patient and Right Exam procedures are followed.
• Establishes IV access for contrast administration and related lab draws.
• Administers contrast media per policy with post-exam instructions.
• Prepares for and assists physicians in CT procedures, including interventional procedures.
• Enters data such as type of scan, slice thickness, scan time into computer.
• Communicates with patient before and during procedure; monitors safety and comfort.
• Ensures complete study transfer to PACS for radiologist interpretation.
• Performs CT equipment QA and maintains required logs.
• Performs clerical tasks such as receiving orders, scheduling patients, and recordkeeping.
• Maintains and cleans work area and equipment; replenishes supplies as needed
