Qualifications

• Graduate of ARRT-recognized Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
• ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine; CT registry within one year of hire.
• BLS certification required.
• Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served.
• Moderate to heavy physical effort with lifting/moving patients and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Examines requests and verifies orders on each patient; refers to Radiologist when discrepancies.
• Identify patients using two identifiers and prepare them with explanations of procedures.
• Interview patients for medical history; review EMR to obtain pertinent clinical history.
• Assumes responsibility for the exam from start to completion of dictated results.
• Prepares and administers IV contrast per departmental protocols; records type and amount as requested.
• Evaluates image quality and consults Radiologist; processes additional or reconstructed images as instructed.
• Performs basic patient care; informs nursing staff of changes; initiates life support when necessary; assists in 'code blue'.
• Performs CT scanning and assists Radiologist/PA; maintains sterile technique; follows infection control policies.
• Authorized to obtain medication/contrast for administration by licensed practitioner.
• Practices radiation safety; adheres to safety standards for self, staff, patients, and family.
• Reports equipment malfunctions; works safely in environments with exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
• Adheres to hospital fire and safety procedures; attends safety training and modules.
• Rotates shifts including call back, holidays, and weekends; adheres to attendance policy.
• Operates radiology computer system; documents contrast administration in MAR.
• Maintains neat, stocked work area and clean workspace.
• Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, during CT-related exams.
