Job summary

SIPS Healthcare in Chicago is seeking a CSPD Sterile Processing Supervisor to lead the CSPD team in a fast-paced, patient-safety focused environment. You will oversee daily workflow, ensure instrument readiness, and drive quality through KPI monitoring and continuous improvement.

You will coach staff, manage attendance and performance issues, and serve as a liaison with the corporate office to support a positive employee experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required.
  • CSPD Certification (HSPA/CBSPD) is required.
  • Minimum of three years CSPD experience required.
  • Some college or college-level courses preferred.
  • Progressive leadership experience preferred.
  • CIS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of the CSPD unit.
  • Provide on-floor supervision for the assigned shift.

Join our team as a CSPD Sterile Processing Supervisor and help leada high-performing department dedicated to patient safety, quality, andoperational excellence. We are seeking a motivated leader who ispassionate about developing people, driving results, and creating astrong team culture.

The ideal CSPD Sterile Processing Supervisor is a strong,people-centered leader who can effectively supervise and develop ateam of up to eight staff members while fostering a productive,accountable, and collaborative shift culture. This individual excelsat balancing daily operational priorities with broader departmentalgoals and brings strong coaching, communication, and problem-solvingskills to the role.

The successful candidate confidently manages attendance,performance, disciplinary actions, and Performance Improvement Plans(PIPs), while handling difficult conversations with professionalismand empathy. They serve as a key liaison between frontline staff andthe corporate office, helping ensure a positive and seamless employee experience.

Job Summary

This role oversees the daily workflow of the Sterile Processingdepartment, ensuring best practices in decontamination, sterilization,and instrument preparation are consistently followed. The Supervisoralso uses key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor performance,identify opportunities for improvement, and support operational excellence.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the departmental Manager orassigned Clinical Director

Job Functions
  • Provides supervision of day-to-day business operationsof the unit.
  • Maintains technical competence and CSPD technician skill set.
  • Provides on the floor supervision of department specificto assigned shift.
  • Oversees flow of work and production volume to ensureinstrumentation is available for customers.
  • Responds to quality issues with OR and otherdepartmental customers.
  • Oversees monthly schedule and coordinates daily shiftstaffing needs consistent with unit staffing plan andbudget.
  • Monitors loaner tray processing for the next day andcoordinates all vendor issues with the goal of monitoringloaner tray inventory.
  • Monitors preventive maintenance of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Monitors all unit quality measures includingsterilization records, case cart completion and regulatorycompliance standards.
  • Monitors staff execution of standard work holding staffaccountable for work quantity/quality and adherence tosafety standards.
  • Identifies individual staff orientation and ongoinglearning needs and coordinates individual learningplan with CSPD instructor.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to staff concerningperformance and collaborates with department managers incompleting annual performance reviews.
  • Initiates coaching and positive disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide necessary leadership toemployees in assigned area.
  • Collaborates with department leadership team to identifyimprovement needs and monitor quality indicators.
  • Maintains awareness of standards and changes withinhealth care and CSPD industry.
  • Promotes high levels of staff engagement, performance,and retention.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma- required
  • Sterile Processing Technician HSPA or CBSPDCertification - required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of CSPD experience required
  • Some college or college level courses- preferred
  • Progressive leadership experience- preferred
  • CIS (or an equivalent certification)- preferred

Physical Demands

This position requires frequent standing (>4 hours), walking(>4 hours), and limited sitting (<2 hours). Employees must beable to lift and carry 20–50 lbs. and push/pull up to 20 lbs. The roleinvolves various physical activities, including but not limited tosquatting (0-1 hours), bending, twisting, reaching above theshoulders, reaching below the waist, kneeling, and grasping (>1 hour).
