Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant to participate in operations, assist the surgeon, provide exposure, maintain hemostasis, and perform technical tasks under supervision. The role requires CSFA certification and state licensure, plus current BLS and ACLS preferred.

You will work across shifts, weekends and holidays as needed, with duties including intraoperative assistance, instrument handling, and patient care coordination.

Qualifications

• Registered by the State Board of Medicine and CSFA NBSTSA.
• Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification; ACLS preferred.
• Experience as a Surgical Technologist or CSFA.
• One+ year CSFA experience at Level 1/2 trauma center preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program or Master of Surgical Assisting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operations under the direction of the surgeon to make incisions and manipulate tissues, implant devices, suction, catheterize, and apply dressings.
• Maintain exposure and hemostasis; perform technical functions as directed.
• Participate in shift rotations including weekends and holidays; may take call after orientation period.
