Job summary

The University of Chicago's Department PSD Computer Science is seeking an instructional course specialist to support undergraduate and master’s classes. This renewable one-year appointment reports to the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Associate Director of Operations and Academic Affairs.

The role oversees TAs, graders, and lab setup, coordinates course technology (GitHub, Gradescope, Canvas, Ed Discussion), develops instructional materials, ensures accommodations, and maintains

Qualifications

  • Education: college/university degree in related field.
  • Work experience: 2–5 years in a related job discipline.
  • Certifications: ---

Responsibilities

  • Oversees TAs and graders, ensuring grading is accurate and on schedule.
  • Train and guide grading standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead lab sessions and coordinate instructional teams for course operations.
  • Set up and handle lab equipment safely for each session.
  • Manage course technology platforms (GitHub, Gradescope, Canvas, Ed Discussion).
  • Coordinate communication among faculty, staff, TAs, graders, and students.
  • Prepare instructional materials, manuals, syllabi, and documentation.
  • Provide instructional support and last-minute coverage for sessions.
  • Support SDS accommodations and proctoring for accommodated testing.
  • Ensure safety and proper use of laboratory equipment.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
2-5 years of related work experience
