Job summary

Until Labs in San Francisco seeks a hands-on engineer/physicist to own the interface between a high-power rewarming platform and biological samples. You will design hardware and software connections—holders, fluidic circuits, sensing, control, and data acquisition—while running experiments with real organs in the lab.

You’ll reason from first principles in electromagnetics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics, and develop robust control and logging software in Python or C++.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on engineering experience; be able to walk us through a project and explain initial modeling errors.
• Strong command of electromagnetics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
• Mechanical design and fabrication experience (CAD, rapid prototyping, 3D printing).
• Circuit design from protoboard to PCB; build and debug sensors, data acquisition, and control systems.
• Proficiency in Python and/or C++ (object-oriented).
• Eager to work with biologists; no biology background required.
• Desire to join a small, fast-paced, ambitious team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate hardware and software linking the rewarming system to the organ: holders, fluidic circuits, sensing, control, and data acquisition.
• Run experiments on holder designs and rewarming protocols with the organ and cryobiology teams.
• Reason from first principles to model nanoparticle distribution and heating, refining hardware and protocols.
• Develop sensing, control, interlock, and logging software for field profiles and temperature feedback.
• Learn quickly, own ambiguous problems, and contribute across the rewarming hardware stack.
