Job summary

GE HealthCare in Florence, SC is seeking an experienced cryogenic mechanical design engineer to design and analyze superconducting magnets for SIGNA MRI systems. You will perform thermo-fluid analyses, thermal/structural designs, and provide manufacturing support for cryogenic and vacuum systems.

The role requires hands-on experience with cryogenic hardware and advanced analysis methods. PhD is a plus; relocation assistance is provided for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Masters in mechanical, thermal, or cryogenic engineering or related experience.
  • Hands-on hardware experience with cryogenic systems and components.
  • Direct design & analysis experience of cryogenic systems, components & liquid helium systems.
  • PhD in Thermal or Cryogenic Engineering (desired).

Responsibilities

  • Perform cryogenic mechanical design and analysis of superconducting magnets and components for MRI systems.
  • Thermodynamics and heat transfer analysis, including heat loads and test verification.
  • Thermal and structural design of cryogenic components.
  • Verification and validation of cryogenic components and instrumentation.
  • Reliability analysis of cryogenic components and systems.
  • Manufacturing support of cryogenic and vacuum systems.
  • Develop methods to reduce cryogen consumption.
  • Failure analysis of cryogenic components.
  • Develop service tools to support cryogen filling, maintenance and safety.
  • Installed Base data analysis and reduction. Lead resolution of cryogenic, thermal and vacuum issues relating to Installed Base Systems.
  • Prepare/present design analysis reports and part/assembly drawing reviews.
  • Develop product, component test and purchase specifications.
  • Design leadership of productivity projects (both product cost and life cycle cost reduction).
