Job summary

The Department of Biological Chemistry at University of California, Los Angeles is recruiting an Assistant Project Scientist for collaborative MicroED method development in Professor Gonen’s lab. This role focuses on small molecule, membrane, and protein samples, with emphasis on sample prep, data collection, and analysis.

You will work on designing funded projects, optimizing MicroED workflows, and mentoring students and staff, while contributing to publications and grant writing in cryo-EM.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry, materials science, bioengineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience in macromolecular MicroED sample preparation and data analyses.
• Experience in small molecule MicroED sample preparation and data analyses.
• Prior publications in MicroED.

Responsibilities

• Support the PI in the design and execution of funded projects.
• Prepare samples for MicroED (macromolecular and small molecules) and optimize data collection parameters.
• Mentor and supervise lab members; assist in writing progress reports and grant applications.
• Manage data archiving, analysis pipelines, and project budgeting as required.
