Job summary

Princess Cruises and Holland America Line is seeking a Cruise Train Rail Guide for the McKinley Express on Alaska itineraries. You will narrate scenery and historic points, serving as the first and last guest contact, while ensuring dome car safety and cleanliness and supporting daily Food & Beverage operations.

This seasonal, full-time role requires strong guest service, the ability to work Wednesdays and Saturdays during the season, and adherence to health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Alaska Food Handlers Card required or obtainable
• Able to lift 50 lbs

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced customer service on board the rail car.
• Offer narration and information to guests during the journey.
• Assist in dome food and beverage service.
• Respond to questions from guests and coworkers.
• Promote a safe and comfortable guest experience on board.
• Present and distribute rail items for purchase.
• Enter retail items into the POS system.
• Process guest payments and prepare accounting reports.

As a Cruise Train Rail Guide onboard our McKinley Express (MEX), you will be providing a narrative of the scenery and historical reference points throughout the rail journey onboard a single level domed rail car. You will play a large role in the overall guest experience and success of our operations. You will the first and last person the guests see while riding the train. In this role, you will also be responsible for ensuring the safety and cleanliness of our domed cars as well as assisting in the daily Food and Beverage operations onboard the train.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform a variety of advanced customer service tasks.
• Provide information and narration for guests while traveling on board our rail cars.
• Take an active role in the dome food and beverage service.
• Respond to queries from coworkers, management, and guests.
• Promote a safe and comfortable experience for guests on board.
• Present and distribute retail items for purchase.
• Regular entry of retail items into the POS (point of sales) system.
• Process guest payments and prepare reports needed for accounting personnel.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to work every Wednesday and Saturday during the season.
• Minimum age of 21 years is required to serve alcohol in the state of Alaska.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check.
• Minimum age of 18 years is required to reside in company housing, where available.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States. Holland America-Princess is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-2B status).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Have current or be able to obtain an Alaska Food Handlers Card and Techniques of Alcohol Management course.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work, and maintain attention to time constraints, while working in a team or group environment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and external influences.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while achieving daily goals.
• Ability to support and comply with company policies, procedures, and guidelines including support and comply with company health and safety standards.
• Ability to stand/walk/work on feet for a minimum of 15 hours per day.
