Job summary

City of Annapolis (MD) is seeking a part-time crossing guard to assist pedestrians at official cross walks and traffic areas. You will guide traffic, escort pedestrians, and communicate crossing rules to students and adults.

The role requires basic reading/writing skills, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to interact with the public in varying weather conditions. Prior experience in traffic safety is helpful.

Qualifications

• Ability to work with others; knowledge of traffic and pedestrian safety laws.
• Good judgment and strong powers of observation.
• Ability to read and write; report writing as requested.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
• Knowledge of city code and transportation articles related to pedestrian crossing.

Responsibilities

• Guide or control vehicular or pedestrian traffic at streets and schools.
• Direct or escort pedestrians across streets, stopping traffic as necessary.
• Communicate traffic rules and crossing information to students and adults.
• Direct traffic or warn of hazards using signs, flags, and hand signals.
• Inform drivers of detour routes and learn street signs within patrol areas.
