Job summary

City of Ann Arbor Crossing Guard position involves holding a STOP sign to ensure children cross safely and reporting any unsafe observations to the school authorities. You will also record license numbers of vehicles that ignore the crossing and assist students who are lost or injured, following all crossing regulations.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, strong verbal and written communication, independence, sound judgment, and knowledge of traffic control rules for school

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must be able to work effectively and be courteous with other employees and the public.
• Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Must be able to apply sound judgment.
• Knowledge of traffic control devices and traffic regulations pertaining to school and pedestrian crossings.
• Previous experience working with children or the public is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Hold up a hand-held STOP sign until all children are safely across the street.
• Report any unsafe observations, incidents or accidents involving students to school authorities.
• Record and report the license numbers of vehicles that disregard the Crossing Guard while in the crosswalk.
• Assist students that are lost, injured, or need assistance.
• Abide by all guidelines and regulations governing student crossing.
