Syracuse City Corporation in Syracuse, Utah is seeking a Crossing Guard Sub to assist with safe school crossings under the Police Department. This part-time, non-exempt position reports to the Crossing Guard Supervisor and pays hourly.

Duties include observing traffic, ushering children and pedestrians, maintaining crossing locations, and completing time sheets as required. Candidates must be at least 18 and have basic education and experience with traffic safety.

Position Summary:

Performs routine duties as needed to assure safe crossing of school children and the general public at intersections and other road crossings; Observes road traffic to determine best timing for road crossings; admits children and pedestrians into designated crossing locations; escorts children and pedestrians as needed to assure safe crossings; Monitors behavior of children and educates children regarding traffic safety as appropriate; Observes general activity while on duty to detect suspicious behaviors; Reports such observations; May prepare various reports related to work time and work activities; and other duties as assigned by the Police Sergeant.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of: Traffic flows, rules, and regulations
• Skilled in: Dealing effectively with children
• Ability to: Enter roadway and stop flow of traffic

Work Environment:

The noise level is usually loud (traffic noise).

Work is performed primarily in outdoor settings and in all weather conditions. Employee may be required to work in inclement weather.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Sufficient education to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties
• Sufficient experience to demonstrate a working knowledge of practices and procedures associated with above duties.
• Must be 18 years of age or older
