Job summary

South Washington County Schools is seeking a Crossing Guard Paraprofessional at Armstrong Elementary School. You will supervise student crossings and assist with safety patrols to ensure a safe travel environment for walkers.

The role requires a high school diploma, reliability, and the ability to lift up to 10 pounds. Training is provided; benefits are offered; calendar follows the school year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Competencies as required by State of Minnesota, Federal government, and/or District 833.
• Proven teamwork, confidentiality, and communication skills.

• Ability to pass Paraprofessional fitness for duty tests.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist the principal in appointing student safety patrols.
• Maintain an accurate list of school safety patrols and provide to the Transportation Manager.
• Monitor and document patrol behavior; report issues to the principal.
• Attend adult crossing guard meetings as required.
• Perform fall and spring evaluations of patrols.
• Organize and chaperone events for patrols.
• Maintain and update patrol equipment.
• Meet quarterly with school safety patrols.
• Maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families, and staff.

Highly Qualified Information

This position is eligible for an additional $.50 per hour once Highly Qualified status is achieved (2 or 4 year degree, OR 60 semester credits OR successful completion of the Para Pro which is offered by the district regularly).

Position Summary

Provide a safe traveling environment for all students walking to and from school.

Primary Job Functions

• Directly supervises the safe crossing of students at designated hazardous crosswalks.


• Assist the school principal in the appointment of student school safety patrols.


• Maintain an accurate list of the school safety patrols. Provide accurate list to the Transportation Student Safety/Crossing Guard Manager.


• Monitor, document, and offer corrective behavior measures to student school safety patrols and student pedestrians. Report student school safety patrols to the school principal if there are issues and behaviors that cannot be immediately remedied.


• Attend all adult crossing guard meetings as required.


• Perform fall and spring evaluations of student school safety patrols.


• Assist with organizing, coordinating and chaperoning events for student school safety patrols.


• Maintain and update all school safety patrol equipment.


• Meet quarterly with the school safety patrols.


• Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families, and staff.


• Maintain a high level of fairness, confidentiality, respect and equity for all students, staff and families.


• Other duties as assigned.
