The City of Somerville is looking for Crossing Guards to ensure the safety of children and pedestrians near schools. This role includes responsibilities such as managing traffic, enforcing safety rules, and serving as a friendly community presence.
The position requires punctuality for morning and afternoon shifts and involves standing for extended periods outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. The hourly pay is $25.21, but this position is not eligible for benefits.
We are no longer hiring crossing guards for the 2025-2026 school year. We are now collecting applications for the 2026-2027 school year. We plan to review applications in June and invite candidates to interview in July for a late August start date.
Crossing Guards ensure the safety of children and pedestrians by helping them cross streets at designated locations, especially near schools. They manage traffic flow, enforce safety rules, and serve as a vigilant, friendly presence in the community.
Crossing guards must be able to stand for extended periods, move at a moderate pace, and bend or stoop.
Crossing guards work outdoors, often in inclement weather.
2 hours each school day / 10 hours weekly (not benefits eligible)
