Job summary

The Thatcher Unified School District #4 is seeking a Crossing Guard to protect children en route to and from school and to assist pedestrians at crossing points during opening and dismissal hours.

The role requires knowledge of highway safety, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and reliable, cordial communication with the public. Safety vest and adherence to the Crossing Guard Manual are essential, with duties including warning signs placement and traffic monitoring.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of highway safety and regulations.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to relate cordially with people.
  • Sound physical health; punctuality.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Dress appropriately for the assigned responsibilities, including safety vest.
  • Know and apply information in TUSD Crossing Guard Manual.
  • Place and remove warning signs, traffic cones, etc.
  • Monitor condition of equipment, roadway, etc. Report repair needs.
  • Be alert at all times for children approaching from all directions.
  • Instruct children in safety matters and crossing procedures.
  • Enforce regulations and behavior guidelines.
  • Monitor traffic; escort pedestrians at assigned crosswalk.
  • Stay mentally alert; use reasonable measures to prevent an accident and/or improve dangerous situations.
  • Know the location of nearest phone(s) and personnel to notify in case of accidents
  • Note and report traffic infractions, deviant behavior, accident conditions
  • Attend to accident victims as appropriate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Hourly. Salary as determined by the Board of Education. Evaluation in accordance with Board policy.
