Job summary

SPLENDORA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a part-time Crossing Guard to help students safely cross streets during arrival and dismissal. You will direct traffic, supervise pedestrians, and wear the required safety gear on every shift. Training is provided by the local police department, and the role supports the district's safety mission.

Join a dedicated transportation team and contribute to child safety in all weather conditions while working 173 duty days per year.

Qualifications

• No formal education required; training provided by Splendora Police Department.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Texas driver's license if available.

Responsibilities

• Direct and stop traffic to allow students and pedestrians to cross safely.
• Ensure students follow safety procedures when crossing streets.
• Remain alert to identify hazards and maintain safety.
• Use safety equipment (stop sign, vest) correctly during crossings.
• Wear uniform and safety vest during all duty hours.
• Report suspicious behavior or incidents to the Transportation Supervisor.
• Communicate crossing rules to students, parents and staff as needed.
• Manage large groups of children and maintain order during crossings.
• Arrive on time for all shifts; work in various weather conditions.
• Follow Splendora ISD and Police Department guidelines.

Primary Purpose

Provide safe crossing for students who walk to and from school. Ensure student safety by directing traffic and pedestrians during school arrival and dismissal times. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and vision of Splendora ISD.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• None required
• Valid Texas Driver's License or picture ID preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Good reasoning and decision-making ability
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated willingness to work with children
• Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emergency situations
• Ability to stand and walk continuously for extended periods (1+ hours)
• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions on every school day
• Must have the ability to be reached by phone for the duration of the 173-day assignment and as needed during the off period

• Maintain and properly use all safety equipment (stop sign, vest, etc.).
• Wear uniform and safety vest during all duty hours.
• Report suspicious behavior, unsafe conditions, or traffic incidents to the Transportation Supervisor.
• Communicate crossing rules and safety procedures to students, parents, and staff when necessary.
• Manage large groups of children and maintain order during crossings.
• Arrive on time for all assigned shifts and work in various weather conditions.
• Follow all Splendora ISD and Splendora Police Department guidelines.
• Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Stop sign, reflective vest, whistle, two-way radio, safety equipment.
