Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a field-based crop insurance adjuster to support Midwest operations. You will inspect crops, read maps and imagery, and record loss information per FCIC/NCIS guidelines while maintaining strong relationships with policyholders and agents.

The role requires 2 years of claims experience, CAPP certification, a valid driver’s license, and licenses as applicable. Expect travel up to 50% and outdoor work in farm environments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or education/experience mix.
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture preferred.
  • CAPP Certification required.
  • State license required; driving record acceptable.
  • 2 years’ crop insurance claims experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • Knowledge of crop insurance regs, policies and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to complete documentation accurately.
  • Capable of working indoors and outdoors in farms.

Responsibilities

  • Support Multi-Peril Crop Insurance and claims operations.
  • Build professional relationships with supervisors, policyholders, agents, and adjusters.
  • Record and transmit loss information per FCIC, NCIS, and company rules.
  • Perform field inspections; read maps; utilize aerial imagery; measure fields and bins.
  • Use company software and monitor communications daily.
  • Explain adjusting procedures and findings to policyholders and agents.
  • Conduct fact-finding and investigate crop damage.
  • Record and transmit information to determine indemnities.
  • Learn new crops as needed; adapt to varying crops.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in agricultural environments.
  • Travel within territory; occasional out-of-town training/meetings.

Job description

  • Join the Midwest team supporting Multi-Peril Crop Insurance, Private Products, and Named Peril claims operations
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with the Area Claim Supervisor, policyholders, agents, and other adjusters
  • Record and transmit loss information to determine potential damages according to FCIC, NCIS, and company procedures
  • Complete field inspections, read maps and aerial imagery, measure fields, and measure storage bins
  • Utilize company software and monitor company communications daily
  • Follow FCIS, State, and company rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Complete required training and certifications
  • Explain adjusting procedures and findings to policyholders and agents
  • Perform fact-finding and investigate crop damage
  • Record and transmit information to accurately determine potential indemnities
  • Learn new crops as needed
  • Work indoors and outdoors in agricultural environments
  • Travel within the assigned territory and occasionally travel out of town for training and meetings

Requirements

  • Preferred 2 years’ experience handling crop insurance claims
  • Required CAPP certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Applicable State license
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture preferred
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to complete documentation requirements
  • Analytical thinking, fact-finding, and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to utilize company software proficiently and monitor company communications daily
  • Working knowledge of crop insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to work in an office setting and outdoors in a farm environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Willingness to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to walk in agricultural fields up to 3 miles
  • Ability to climb agricultural storage bins up to 75 feet and perform work at significant heights
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to use applicable PPE
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and as needed
  • Up to 50% travel, primarily within a two-hour driving distance from the assigned home office
