This position performs routine work in cleaning/sanitizing an assigned area of a school building by followingprescribed cleaning frequencies. Under limited supervision, this position is also responsible for floormaintenance, furniture relocation, and maintaining the immediate perimeter of the school building. Shiftwork may be required.
General Definition of Work:Performs responsible skilled work in the repair, maintenance, and installation of critical electrical systems including, but not limited to, fire alarm systems, security alarm systems, access control systems, security entry equipment, panic buttons, emergency generators, and intercom systems; does related work as required. Supervision will be exercised over semi-skilled and unskilled workers. Maintains acceptable attendance in accordance with Albemarle County guidelines. This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies.
Essential Functions:Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in installing and repairing electrical wiring systems, controls, and electrical machinery and equipment in buildings; thorough knowledge of the provisions of the appropriate Electrical Code, and pertinent City or State inspection and safety requirements; ability to diagnose and correct electrical power, lighting or communications failures; ability to do field or shop repair on electrical equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Education and Experience:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school or vocational school and extensive experience as a general electrician supplemented by course work in an electrical field. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain a valid appropriate electrical license within six months of employment. Possession of a valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Negative drug screening and tuberculin tests are also required.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:Performance of strenuous physical tasks, such as: walking over rough or uneven surfaces; bending or stooping; working in confined spaces; or lifting or carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds, with occasional lifting of items weighing over 100 pounds. The complex operation of gasoline, diesel, or electric-powered machinery or shop equipment, requires the manipulation of multiple controls or fine adjustments. Exposure to potentially disabling/non-disabling injuries or illnesses. Regular contact is made with individuals from other internal organizational units, outside organizations, and the general public for purposes of exchanging factual information which requires some judgment or interpretation in order to be responsive to questions or applicable to a specific situation. Communication is usually cooperative in nature, with most conflicts resolved by higher authority. Ability to troubleshoot and program special systems, specifically: PA systems, Fire Alarm systems, security systems, and camera systems. High Voltage electrical experience (277/480).
Evaluation:Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
