Job Summary:

The Critical Facilities Technician I will perform critical facility maintenance, repairs, installations, training, or oversite when bargaining unit employees are either unqualified or unavailable. Coordinates activities of workers and contractors engaged in repairs of machines and facilities. Train, lead and mentor all levels of maintenance staff. Fills in for and represents Maintenance Facility Manager when the manager is off‑duty or occupied. Sets up and operates variety of machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines. Installs and repairs mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and components in industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties. Robotic involvement and training. Mentor and train subordinate maintenance staff. Fills in for and represents Maintenance Facility Manager with the manager is off‑duty. Coordinates activities of workers engaged in reairs of machines and facilities.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Develops work plans for emergency repair of critical assets.

  • Assist with the allocation, coordination, execution, communication and closing of Work Orders to ensure a prompt response to critical needs as well as basic requests.

  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Assist Facility Maintenance Manager with corporate/facility projects.

  • Lead installations, relocations, and removals of production machinery and equipment.

  • Coordinate, establish, and train bargaining unit mechanics to advance skillsets, fill department roles and maintain workflow.

  • Travels offsite as needed to conduct inspections, repairs, acquire parts, or evaluate equipment.

  • Fills in for Facility Maintenance Manager when needed to direct work scheduling, repairs, and

  • personnel.

  • Conduct training for maintenance personnel as scheduled, when needed, or when presented the

  • opportunity.

  • Delegates/assigns specific duties and special projects to other technicians based on their skillset.

  • Mentors technicians by motivating, providing guidance and directions to help them achieve their goals.

  • Assists department manager by dealing directly with outside contractors for scheduling, monitoring. retesting, obtaining approval for repairs, maintaining appropriate job safety standards, and ensuring repairs are completed correctly.

  • Represents Facility Maintenance Manager in meetings and conferences.

  • Listens for unusual sounds and tests malfunctioning equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.

  • Inspects and measures machine parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.

  • Dismantles machines or equipment, replaces defective parts and motors, and adjusts feed mechanisms.

  • Inspects machinery's electrical wiring, switches, and controls for safe operating condition, grounding, and adjustment.

  • Connects wire to motors, fixtures, and other electrical equipment, replaces switches and fuses, and splices wire and insulates wire with friction tape.

  • Realigns and adjusts machine components such and spindles and clutches.

  • Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.

  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.

  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.

  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.

  • Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.

  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.

  • Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.

  • Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots, CNC machine tools, or programmable controllers.

  • Pushes buttons and presses keys on robotic controller, teach pendant, and programmable controller to program automated machinery, such as robots and CNC machine tools, to operate machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.

  • Modifies computer-controlled motion of robot of CNC machine tool.

  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machines to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools.

  • Maintains working area in a safe, clean and orderly fashion.

  • Implement engineered process improvements and sustain continuous improvement objectives.

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.



Minimum Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years maintenance certificate from college or technical school or five years of related maintenance lead experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from both internal and external customers.

  • Good work record, including attendance.
