Job summary

JLL is seeking a seasoned Critical Environment Facility Engineer to operate and maintain mission-critical facilities supporting data center environments. You will manage HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BAS, DDC, and fire protection systems to maximize uptime and safety.

Role requires hands-on maintenance, preventive and predictive work, and strong collaboration with teams, vendors and customers. On-call rotations and emergency response are part of duties.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating and maintaining commercial, industrial, semiconductor, healthcare, laboratory, or data center facilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple facility disciplines including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BAS, DDC, fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
  • Strong understanding of critical facility operations and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls drawings.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex facility systems and equipment failures.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems such as Maximo or equivalent.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot critical facility systems and infrastructure.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, and fire protection systems.
  • Respond to facility alarms, equipment failures, and emergencies with rapid restoration of services.
  • Monitor BAS, controls systems, and critical equipment performance.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and startup activities for new equipment and facility upgrades.
  • Participate in change management, LO TO, safety programs, and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers performing work within critical environments.
  • Maintain maintenance records, logs, permits, and compliance documentation.
  • Identify reliability risks and recommend corrective actions to improve system performance and uptime.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency response rotations.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and equipment rounds.
  • Assist with energy management and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support root cause investigations following equipment failures or operational incidents.

4 x 10-hour shifts (multiple day, swing, and night shift opportunities available)

Position Summary

The Critical Environment Facility Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability of mission-critical facility infrastructure supporting data center and high-availability environments. This role requires broad technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and fire protection systems to ensure maximum uptime, safety, and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance while supporting facility projects, change management activities, emergency response, and continuous improvement initiatives. Engineers will work independently and collaboratively with facility teams, vendors, and customers to maintain critical infrastructure in a 24/7 operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to facility alarms, equipment failures, and emergency situations while ensuring rapid restoration of services.
  • Monitor building automation systems (BAS), controls systems, and critical equipment performance.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and startup activities for new equipment and facility upgrades.
  • Participate in change management, lockout/tagout (LOTO), safety programs, and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers performing work within critical environments.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, permits, and compliance documentation.
  • Identify reliability risks and recommend corrective actions to improve system performance and uptime.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency response rotations as required.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and equipment rounds.
  • Assist with energy management, sustainability initiatives, and operational efficiency programs.
  • Support root cause investigations following equipment failures or operational incidents.
Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls drawings.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex facility systems and equipment failures.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems such as Maximo or equivalent.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
Required Certifications
  • EPA Universal CFC Refrigerant Certification (required)
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet site access requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a Stationary Engineer Apprenticeship Program
  • State-issued Stationary Engineer License (where applicable)
  • Fire Pump Testing and Inspection Certification
  • Experience in semiconductor, mission-critical, or data center environments
  • NFPA and fire protection systems knowledge
  • Experience with VFDs, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, and critical cooling systems
  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Knowledge of energy management and facility optimization practices
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, climb ladders, work at heights, and access mechanical spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform extended periods of standing, walking, and equipment inspections.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments under varying conditions.

Estimated compensation for this position:

163,000.00 - 180,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
