Job summary

Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC) in Buffalo, NY seeks a part-time Critical Care Technician for the day shift. The role provides direct patient care in a critical care setting under supervision, including monitoring and basic treatments.

The incumbent performs vital signs, routine procedures, and supports patient comfort and safety. BLS certification is required within 60 days, with full orientation and adherence to hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
• Possession of thirty (30) semester credit hours from a school of professional nursing*.
• Completion of a course of study in a school of practical nursing approved by the New York State Education Department; or:
• Completion of a certificate program as a medical assistant, medical office assistant or closely related program from a college* or university* or post-high school institution.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic and personal care procedures, including feeding, bathing, shaving, changing gowns and bed linens, assisting with ambulation and range of motion, skin care and bowel and bladder elimination.
• Obtains vital signs and notifies supervisor of changes.
• Monitors fluid intake and output.
• Performs simple treatments and dressing changes, non-complicated eye washing, finger sticks, routine specimen collection, venipuncture, 12 Lead ECG and pulse oximetry and records measurements.
• Applies abdominal binders, arthrombic pumps/leggings, splints, prosthetic devices, antiembolic stockings and ace wraps.
• Responds appropriately to life-threatening emergencies.
• Distributes clean linens and makes beds.
• Assists in discharging and transferring patients from critical care.
