Job summary

Heywood-Hospital in Gardner, MA is seeking a motivated Medical Assistant or similar role to support nursing and clinical teams. This position offers daytime and evening shifts with 8-hour days.

You will help maintain patient comfort, restock supplies, assist with treatments, and support patient admissions and discharges. The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and efficient patient flow, with CPR certification required and prior PACU/SDC experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AHA CPR certification required.
• Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant or Critical Care Tech experience required.
• Relevant education may qualify in lieu of experience.
• Prior PACU, SDC or Endoscopy experience preferred.
• Positive attitude, flexibility and self-direction are a must.

Responsibilities

• Works with departmental and healthcare teams to complete assignments.
• Maintains a clean and comfortable environment for patients and visitors.
• Removes or arranges for removal of safety hazards from environment immediately to prevent potential safety hazards from occurring.
• Prioritizes and reprioritizes work based on the changing needs of the customers.
• Maintains established par levels of all medical supplies so that physicians and nursing staff have access to adequate supplies and materials.
• Orders all medical supplies for the clinical department, restocks shelves and files for physicians and nurses.
• Assists physicians with treatments and procedures as requested.
• Assists in the admission and discharge of patients to expedite care.
• Assists in the collection of routine specimens.
• Assists with the transfer of patients to and from other departments utilizing appropriate technique.
• Assists the secretaries by answering phones, scheduling patients and filing, as requested.
• Observes reports and records non-invasive vital signs and intake and output as directed by the RN and standards.
• Performs a variety of complex patient treatments and procedures according to standard policies and procedures.
• Physically prepares patients for and assists care providers with examinations and therapeutic procedures.
• Assists with pre and post-operative patient admission to the Surgical Day Care Unit.
• Performs pre-operative checklist verification.
