The National Youth Advocate Program seeks a Crisis Support Specialist to provide after-hours crisis support and placement coordination for youth and families. This role is hybrid-on-call, responding to incidents, gathering information, and coordinating with custodial agencies and foster parents by phone.

Responsibilities include documenting interventions, completing placement paperwork, and ensuring timely follow-up with regions and referral sources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, or behavioral sciences; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in youth services or child welfare/foster care preferred.
  • Ability to remain alert after-hours with strong listening and speaking skills.
  • Proficient with computers and common software (Word, Excel, databases).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with after-hours inbound calls from the answering service and provide support.
  • Gather information for incident reports and notify custodial agencies.
  • Provide telephone support to callers and de-escalate crisis situations.
  • Manage after-hours placement referrals and coordinate with regional staff.
  • Complete placement paperwork and Medicaid documentation when applicable.
  • Log interventions and document services provided via phone.

Crisis Support SpecialistCompensation: $22 per hourContingent- On Call as Needed:Monday-Friday 4 PM-12 AMThis is a hybrid on call position.The Crisis Support Specialist works to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families served by the National Youth Advocate Program. This position is responsible for assisting with afterhours calls from the answering service to provide support, answer questions, address comments and/or concerns and respond with the appropriate actions.Working at NYAPPhone reimbursementResponsibilitiesAssist with after-hours inbound calls from the answering service.Gather information for incident reports from foster parents, write incident reports, and make appropriate notifications to custodial agencies.Assess service recipient and community partner needs.Provide telephone support to callers. Notify on-call staff of incidents that require regional intervention.Manage afterhours placement referrals received while on shift. Consult with regional staff as needed to identify appropriate matches for youth referred. Coordinate with custodial agencies, foster parents, and the region to make placements. Complete all placement paperwork. Assist with locating afterhours emergency respite as needed.Assist foster parents to de-escalate crisis situations. Document all interventions and behavioral health services provided via phone.Log data regarding afterhours calls and placement requests. Assist with completion of required documentation for placements made during the day. Provide follow up communication to regions.Notify Service Reception that a placement notifies service reception team if a placement need continues into the next business day.Notify the referral source of the outcome of the referral.Complete Medicaid documentation when applicable.Other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree from an accredited school in human services, social work or behavioral/social sciences; Masters degree preferred.1 year of experience in youth services, preferably with direct experience in child welfare, or foster care; preferredMust have the ability to be and stay alert after-hours; have excellent listening and speaking skills.Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, internet search, people management programs, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.Driving and Vehicle RequirementsValid driver’s licenseReliable personal transportationGood driving recordMinimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liabilityApply today!www.nyap.org/employment/nyapcareers.htmlBenefits listed are for eligible employees as outlined by our benefit policy.An Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/veterans.
